The Columbus Arts Festival
The Columbus Arts Festival celebrated their 55th year this past weekend. I hope you made it out, but if you didn’t check out these highlights. There were over 300 hundred exhibiting artists from 38 states and 4 foreign countries. There are 7 entertainment stages that hosted about 1,100 performers over the course of this weekend. We send our congratulations to all the winners of best show, juror’s choice, merit awards, and more.
Did you see the chalk art where artists re-created famous works? Or the new Gallery of Echoes? It was a collaboration between shadowbox live and the greater Columbus Arts council that incorporated music, video, dance, song, and spoken word. There was even an emerging artist tent that showcased Central Ohio artists who are new to the scene, and I really hope you didn’t miss the Art Shark. He is the festival mascot and a favorite for kids. If you didn’t make it out this year be sure to check out some of the artist that where there and the upcoming festivals below.
Pride Festival
Don’t forget to come out and celebrate 35 years of PRIDE this weekend! Starting on Friday, June 17th, there will be performances, dancing, live music, food, drinks, and more. To name a few, the featured performers include Jeffery Austin, Everyday Sunday, Evelyn Champagne King, and Rayvon. There will be a pride 5K on Friday, followed by a swimwear fashion show. On Saturday there will be the pride parade and Dragapolooza. Sunday will finish off the festival with the Bat N’ Rouge and the pride brunch. There will also be performances by local celebrities and lots of drag. So if you want a good show, or just enjoy the environment come check out the Pride Festival.
This year the pride Grand Marshal is Lana Moore. She has 35 years of service with the Columbus Division of Fire. In 2008 she came out as openly transgender and transitioned from male to female. She is a powerful advocate of Pride, and supports the community in any way she can.
Blues and Jazz Festival
The Blues & Jazz festival is coming up fast! There will be a ton of great food and drinks from venders all over Columbus. Try a unique cocktail from Club Blues Bar, or if you are more of a beer drinker check out Craft Beers. Try a fudge puppy from Bap Gap Food Concessions, drunken chicken from J. Gumbos, or bubble Tea and macarons from Koko’s Bakery and Tea Salon. No matter what you are craving there will be something here for you. With all the different options you may have to try everything. The food and drinks are a huge plus but don’t forget the reason you are there. The music will be fantastic. Starting on Friday June 17, and going until Sunday June 19th there will be an awesome line up of artist. Not to mention Amusement rides, kid zone, paddle boating, and of course shopping.
